At Penn State
Martin was a student leader in a number of capacities. She served as a resident assistant in East Halls, vice president of Penn State Black Caucus and as a member of both the Blue & White Society and the Office of Annual Giving’s Student Philanthropy Council. She also served as a reporter for The Daily Collegian and as an active member of the Penn State’s Commission for Women and the Commission for Diversity. She is a Dow Jones News Fund alumna and proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Martin was also a finalist in the Africana Research Center’s 2014 Undergraduate Research Exhibition.
After graduation, Martin continued her involvement with Penn State by serving as a member of the board of directors for the Penn State Alumni Association’s New York City chapter in 2015. As an alumna of the Bellisario College, she strived to break barriers in her career by combining her passion for technology and innovation with her love for digital communications. This allowed her to become the first enterprise architect at the United Federation of Teachers, where she helps design and implement technology solutions for more than 185,000 New York City teachers. Prior to the UFT, she worked as a copy editor and page designer at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and as a copywriter at LocalVox Media, Inc. Among her most notable personal accomplishments is singing at the 57th Presidential Inauguration of President Barack Obama with the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir and speaking with Penn State students about entrepreneurship in journalism at the College's Freelance-A-Thon in 2014-15.
