Page Projects Highlighted at ICA Pre-Conference

Page Center Research projects will be highlighted in two panel discussions at a pre-conference session of the annual meeting of the International Communication Association (ICA) in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Thursday, May 21.  The session is titled Ethical Stakeholder Engagement: A Showcase of Projects from the Arthur W. Page Center.

The Organizer for the event is Page Center Senior Research Fellow Dr. Marcia DiStaso.  The panelists will discuss their research from the 2013-2014 Page Center project on ethical stakeholder engagement which was led by Dr. DiStaso.

The first panel will examine engagement as related to social media.  Here are the presentation titles and the panelists:

• “Media Professionals’ Views of Ethical Social Media Engagement During Crises.”  Lucinda Austin of Elon University and Yan Jin of the University of Georgia.
• “Ethical Motivations of Social Media Engagement.”  Alisa Lertpratchya and Serena Carpenter of Michigan State University.
• “Ethical Divergence in Social Media Engagement.”  Tina McCorkindale of Institute for Public Relations and Hilary Fussell Sisco of Quinnipiac University.
• “Ethics of Visual Storytelling.”  Marcus Messner and Jeanine Guidry of Virginia Commonwealth University.

The second panel will have presentations on engagement with four stakeholder groups.  Here’s the lineup:

• “Ethical Internal Stakeholder Engagement.” Shannon Bowen of the University of South Carolina.
• “Role of Diversity in Stakeholder Engagement.”  Dean Mundy of the University of Oregon.
• “Global Stakeholder Engagement.” Lan Ni of the University of Houston, Qi Wang of Villanova University, and Maria De la Flor and Renato Penaflor of Communica PR Consulting.
• “Ethical Consumer Engagement.”  Dustin Supa of Boston University and Melissa Dodd of the University of Central Florida.
