"Trends in Web Design"
Nick Rossi

In a free session for College of Communications students, Nick Rossi, a designer for Teaching and Learnign with Technology at Penn State, discusses how technological changes challenge designers. In addition, he'll focus on how to use WordPress to build a future-ready website and manage content. He'll also address making informed design decisions when choosing themes, fonts, layouts and media. Finally, he'll focus on how those designs will function on a number of devices. Prior to joining the University, Rossi designed websites, mobile applications, animations and digital media for Fortune 500 companies, non-profit organizations and educational institutions for 15 years.

World-reknown fashion designer Kara Laricks presents "Dress for Success!" as part of a free public event presented by AHANA and the Office of Multicultural Affairs in the College of Communications. Laricks, a realty TV star who won the first season of "Fashion Star," is an inspirational speaker and writer. The event is also supported by the University Park Allocation Committee.

"Why Location is the New Cookie"

Asif Khan, founder and president of The Location Based Marketing Association, will present a free public lecture as part of the Arthur W. Page Center Professional-in-Residence Lecture Series supported by a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Khan is a veteran tech start-up, business-development and marketing entrepreneur with more than 15 years experience. He is currently focused on working as a consultant and speaker to the location-based marketing services community. Prior to launching The Location Based Marketing Association, Khan worked with companies as diverse as American Airlines, Baxter Pharmaceuticals, BestBuy, IBM, Limited Brands, Molson-Coors, Communispace and ScotiaBank. He hosts a weekly podcast -- "This Week In Location Based Marketing" -- every Monday. The session is one of seven separate College of Communications events coordinated as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week.
