The eighth annual Page Center Awards will recognize Ursula Burns, chairwoman of Teneo Holdings LLC and former chief executive officer of the Xerox Corporation; Dr. Sanjay Gupta, chief medical correspondent for CNN; and Kelly McGinnis, chief communications officer of Levi Strauss & Co. WPSU-TV takes a closer look at media literacy. Host Bill Hallman, a lecturer in the Department of Telecommunications and Media Industries, will be joined by Matt Jordan, an associate professor and head of the Department of Film Production and Media Studies, as well as Kelley Cotter, an assistant professor in the College of Information Sciences and Technology, as they discuss what constitutes quality journalism, choosing legitimate news sites, the role of social media on news, the potential impacts of AI on news and media, and other related topics. Free public preview screening of the unreleased documentary “Butterfly in a Blizzard,” followed by Q&A with co-director/editor Rose Corr. The film shares a deeply personal look into professional snowboarder Kimmy Fasani’s extraordinary transition from woman to mother.

Annual Pockrass Memorial Lecture, a free public event, presented by Jasmine McNealy, focusing on how "sonic data," sound, can play a role in mediated interactions and how policymakers can and should begin to regulate those interactions. McNealy is an attorney, critical public interest technologist and social scientist who studies emerging media and technology with a view toward influencing law and policy. She is a Senior Fellow in Tech Policy with the Mozilla Foundation, an associate professor at the University of Florida and a faculty associate at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University.
