A Conversation with Timothy Snyder on Freedom and Democracy

The Schreyer Honors College is honored to host Timothy Snyder, the Richard C. Levin Professor of History at Yale University and permanent fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna. Snyder speaks five and reads 10 European languages. He has authored eight chief books, including "On Tyranny," "Our Malady," "The Road to Unfreedom," "Black Earth," and "Bloodlands." He has also co-edited three further books and his essays are collected in "Ukrainian History, Russian Politics, European Futures" (2014), and "The Politics of Life and Death" (2015). Film Screening: "A Rising Fury"

"A Rising Fury" follows two hopeful Ukrainian idealists from the peaceful protest in Kyiv in 2013 to the full-scale Russian invasion to Ukraine in 2022. The film was an official selection of the Tribeca Film Festival. Tickets: Adults $10, Students $5.

Peter Bhatia, CEO Houston Landing

Peter Bhatia, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who currently serves as CEO of Houston Landing, will present a free public lecture and participate in a question-and-answer session. Houston Landing is a nonprofit, digital-only outlet funded by local philanthropy. Bhatia is a media industry veteran who has overseen Pulitzer-Prize winning journalism and digital advances at news sites across the country.

Sports Marketing Meet-Up

Meet-up session with alumnus MIke Neligan ('05), who founded the sports marketing and branding firm Outlier Sports. His clients include Penn State alumnus Robbie Gould, basketball agency LIFT Sports and baseball agency Beverly Hills Sports Council. He has been CMO for VaynerSports, held senior positions with BSE Global and the Brooklyn Nets, worked with Excel Sports and clients such as Derek Jeter and Matt Ryan, and has worked at Hendrick Sports Management and Topps as well. This free session is intended for students to network, get career advice and make connections.

Doug Allen, a Penn State football letterman, former assistant executive director of the NFLPA and former national executive director of SAG, will be the featured guest when Football Fridays, an on-campus question-and-answer series, continues for the fall. The Football Fridays speakers series is sponsored by the Penn State Center for the Study of Sports in Society and the Penn State All-Sports Museum, and hosted by the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications.

COMM 402 International Reporting will meet from 9:05-10:20 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays during the spring semester. During spring people students will travel to Istanbul for on-site reporting.
