An assistant professor at American University's School of Communication, Caty Borum Chattoo is a researcher, documentary producer, and strategist whose work focuses on "storytelling for social change." She is the executive director of the Center for Media & Social Impact and co-founder of the Yes, And Laughter Lab. She has also published extensively on the potential for entertainment media to foster prosocial outcomes in a variety of sustainability contexts, including social justice, climate change and poverty.

Timnit Gebru is a widely respected leader in artificial intelligence ethics research who co-authored a groundbreaking study that exposed the gender and racial biases embedded in facial recognition technologies. After her departure from Google for raising issues about their AI practices and discrimination in the workplace, she launched the Distributed Artificial Intelligence Research (DAIR) Institute to create an environment that is independent from the structures and systems that incentivize profit over ethics and individual well-being.
