Biography

She has been at WRAL since December 2020. She has earned awards from the RTDNA for health and science reporting and hard news. Her reporting on the lack of health care transparency resulted in the state treasurer holding hospital systems accountable for following federal laws. Additionally, the state legislature altered the budget after Ali uncovered $10 million being directed to a church to combat the opioid crisis, despite not having any background in addiction care and the pastor having several prior convictions for embezzlement. During her time at Penn State, Ingersoll completed eight internships with a variety of news networks and organizations nationwide. She was part of the Emmy Award-winning "Centre County Report." Upon graduation, she began her career in Wausau, Wisconsin, for a local news station. There, her story on broadband access reshaped one district's approach to reliance on e-learning. Ingersoll has worked in other news markets including Altoona-State College and Buffalo. In Buffalo, her focus on criminal justice led to numerous reforms in the police department and city court systems. In addition to holding a degree from Penn State, she completed her masters in computational and data journalism at Cardiff University where she graduated with distinction. Ingersoll interned at Bloomberg in London. Her story about the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation's holdings in private prison firms generated international outrage and others about algorithmic bias and robotic technology developments were picked up by major news outlets including USA Today and The Washington Post.
