Nicole Kramer, professor for social psychology - media and communication at the University of Duisberg-Essen in Germany will provide an overview of empirical research in CMC and HCI with a focus on social psychological foundations and social effects. The event is sponsored by the Media Effects Research Lab.

"ESPN Culture"

Lecture Series: Pockrass Memorial Lecture

Travis T. Vogan, a leading sports and media scholar, will present the spring 2015 Robert M. Pockrass Memorial Lecture titled "ESPN Culture." The session is free and open to the public. Vogan is an assistant professor in the School of Journalism & Mass Communication and the Department of American Studies at the University of Iowa. He is the author of "Keepers of the Flame: NFL Films and the Rise of Sports Media" (University of Illinois Press, 2014) and "ESPN: The Making of a Sports Media Empire" (Forthcoming, University of Illinois Press).

Nittany Group Dress Rehearsal

AdClub will wrap up the the AAF Nittany Group team's preparations as they put their year of research and creativity to the test as they pitch their campaign for Pizza Hut to a panel of local ad professionals whose feedback of the presentation will help the team prepare for the regional competition the following weekend in New York City.

"How to Freelance: Preparation, Promotion, Process"

As part of the Freelance-a-Thon conducted by the College of Communications, the AdClub will present Joseph Radding with a session titled "How to Freelance: Preparation, Promotion, Process." Radding is an integrated marketing communications strategist, a creative director, an art director and graphic designer, a writer, a mentor, a manager, a speaker, a painter, a photographer and an educator. His agency and consulting experience includes campaign strategy and creative direction of large, integrated, consumer and business-to-business campaigns, for clients including global corporations, start-ups and governmental organizations. He earned a bachelor's degree from Northwestern University in art theory and practice and a master's in integrated marketing communications from Eastern Michigan University. Radding is the principal, strategist/creative director of InterSection Marketing Communications, and a lecturer at Eastern Michigan University.

"Succeeding in the Entertainment Industry"

Penn State alumnus Kyle Godwin ('08 Journ), the CEO and founder of Atlanta-based Marvalous Entertainment, will be featured in a free public event titled "Succeeding in the Entertainment Industry." Godwin previously worked as an associate producer, project production assistant and production assistant for ESPN, collaborating on award-winning "30 for 30" documentaries and other projects. The session is presented by the Diversity Ambassadors and the Office of Multicultural Affairs.

"How to Get Ahead in Advertising"

Screening of "How to Get Ahead in Advertising" (1989, Bruce Robinson / United Kingdom) as part of Carnegie Cinematheque -- the Thursday night film series presented for educational purposes for students by the Department of Film-Video and Media Studies. A slightly late April Fool's Day treat, this satiric comedy looks at the ethics of the advertising industry.
