Department of Journalism

International Reporting

Each spring for more than a decade, journalism students from the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications at Penn State have traveled the world.

As part of COMM 402 Internatioal Reporting, an "embedded" course, students combine work on campus at the start of the semester with a hands-on, working trip during spring break and then more work in campus as the semester concludes.

This program is designed to give student journalists experience in reporting the news in a foreign country. In previous years, students in the course have traveled to Brazil, China, Cuba, Estonia, Greece, Israel, Mexico, Panama and South Africa.

Spring 2024 / Istanbul, Turkey

In spring 2024, approximately 15 students will travel to Istanbul.

Each student will research, report and produce a significant piece of journalism that touches on some aspect of life in this ancient city that straddles Europe and Asia.

Strategically located on the Bosphorus peninsula between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean, Istanbul has been a hub of political, cultural, religious, and artistic ferment for more than 2,000 years.
