AdClub: Life After Carnegie

Life After Carnegie is the AdClub's biggest event of the year. For the sixth annual presentation, AdClub brings back a panel of recent graduates to talk about how they got their first jobs after graduation and to give current students tips on how to make the most of their advertising education while still at Penn State. This year's panel includes: Kelly Corcoran ('13), marketing manager, VW of America Team Velocity Marketing; Washington, D.C.; Jess Edwards ('13), associate account manager, 360i, New York City; Drew Magid ('11), music tour promoter; Shannon O'Connor ('12), integrated media assistant (on the HBO Account), PHD Media Agency, New York City; Bernadette Staino ('12), senior account coordinator; One Trick Pony, Philadelphia; and Isabel Stanish ('13), junior copywriter, Protagonist, New York City.

Author and civil rights activist the Rev. Charles Smith will be the featured guest during African-American Heritage Month Activities in the College of Communications. His presentation and related activities are free and open to the pubic. The event is sponsored by the African, Hispanic and Native American Student Association (AHANA) and the Office of Multicultural Affairs, with special performances by Ambitions Dance Company and United Soul Ensemble. Damon's Grill will provide catering at the conclusion of the event.

Michael Best, an associate professor at the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs and the School of Interactive Computing at the Georgia Institute of Technology, will present a free public lecture titled "Free, Fair & Facebook: Social Media & Democratic Development in South Africa." Best is also a fellow of the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University, and is co-founder and editor-in-chief of Information Technologies and International Development. He is a frequent consultant to the World Bank. The session, presented by the ICT4D Consortium at Penn State is sponsored by the College of Communications, University Libraries and the Don Davis Program in Ethical Leadership.
