Documentary and film producer Roland Ballester will present the free public session as part of his multi-day campus visit (Sept. 9-12) made possible with support from the Hearst Visiting Professional Fund. Ballester is the executive producer and co-creator of "Merpeople" a four-part Netflix docu-series. He also produced the documentary “Halston,” a CNN Film on Amazon Prime. He's the former president of HomieShop, an animated character licensing company.

Join us for a three-part photojournalism series in the News Lab. This series is focused on the basics – you and your camera. It’s a perfect way to get your hands on equipment before you might in a class or, if you’re not a photo journalism major, it’s a great way to acquire new skills and get comfortable with a camera. The annual Pockrass Memorial Lecture will focus on how co-viewing and discussion can be used by parents to reinforce and support shared family identities, and help children express their emerging ideas on those topics and more. Marie-Louise Mares, a professor at the University of Wisconsin, will present the free public lecture.

A panel discussion about covering major news events with Rebecca Droke of AFP New Agency, Sebastian Foltz of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Scott Goldsmith of Politico, who all covered the attempted assassination of former president Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, earlier this year. The event is free and open to the public.
