A free public lecture by Steve Manuel, a senior lecturer in the College of Communications, as part of the inaugural Homecoming Alumni Lecture Series. Manual is a former public affairs officer for the Office of the Secretary of Defense and Marine Corps spokesman. An award-winning photographer, his expertise includes crisis communications, media relations and public relations methods.

"The Science of Stories and the Stories of Science"

Lecture Series: Pockrass Memorial Lecture

Melanie Green, an associate professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Buffalo, will present a free public lecture. Her research examines the power of narrative to change beliefs, including the effects of fictional stories on real-world attitudes. Her theory of "transportation into a narrative world" focuses on immersion into a story as a mechanisim of narrative influence. She has edited two books and published numerous articles in leading communication, psychology and interdisciplinary journals.

Panel: Digital Ad/PR Professionals

The free public session focuses on how to expect the unexpected when it comes to new developments in the digital advertising and public relations industries. The session is part of a week of activities sponsored by the College of Communications and the College of Information Sciences and Technology.

Information session about a proposed Digital Media Trends and Analystics minor that combines foundational courses in the College of Communications and the College of Information Sciences and Technology. The 18-credit minor sequence, planned for launch in spring 2016, is indented to provide interested students with a stronger backgrond in new technologies, as well as the possibility of a number of leading industry certifications. Presenters include Lee Ahern, the minor coordinator, and Jamey Perry, an assistant dean and adviser in the College of Communications.
